Telex Release
An electronic release of cargo at destination without surrendering an original bill of lading. Speeds up delivery when originals are impractical, subject to carrier and payment terms.
In depth
Telex or express release allows destination release without original B/Ls. The shipper surrenders originals at origin or authorises the line electronically. It speeds flow but removes document control: only use when payment is secure.
Key points
- Suitable when shipper trusts consignee or payment is secured
- Not compatible with all L/C structures requiring original B/L
- Fraud risk if release authorised before payment confirmed
- Also called surrender release, LOI release (varies by line policy)
