DAP (Delivered at Place)

Illustration for DAP (Delivered at Place), Trade & Incoterms

An Incoterm where the seller delivers when goods are placed at the buyer disposal at the named destination. The buyer handles import clearance and pays import duties unless contractually agreed otherwise.

In depth

DAP means the seller delivers goods ready for unloading at the named place (buyer’s warehouse, port, or airport). Import clearance and payment of duties remain with the buyer unless the contract shifts those tasks. It is a middle ground between CIF and DDP.

Key points

  • Seller pays freight to destination; buyer handles import
  • Unloading is usually buyer’s cost unless specified
  • Useful when buyer has preferred customs broker at destination
  • Clarify whether terminal handling at destination is included
